Select Board Approves Discounted Ambulance Purchase

Select Board · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Plympton Select Board locks in a discounted ambulance after a Worcester order fell through. The board voted unanimously to let Town Administrator Bob pursue a repurposed $384,698 ambulance, totaling roughly $414,000 with equipment, from manufacturer Greenwood after Worcester backed out of its own order, saving an estimated two and a half years of build time and about $12,000 in avoided repairs. Members also approved a one-year, $43,500 auditing contract with Lynch & Marini Associates, a 15 percent increase over the prior rate, and signed off on a revived Old Home Day on the town green June 6, 2027, pitched by Christine Joy of the Plympton Historical Society, plus an October 10 "Flying High Dogs" acrobatic show at Holt Field.

The town administrator warned the fiscal 2028 budget starts "in the negative" after this year's budget leaned on stabilization funds and free cash, with level-service and 5-to-10-percent-cut drafts due from department heads this month. "I'm shocked that we have this ability to get this ambulance," the fire chief said, according to the town administrator.
