Plympton Schools Approve SRO Agreement, Face Roof Bill
School Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Plympton School Committee flags a looming multimillion-dollar roof and HVAC replacement at its elementary school. Principal Veneto detailed summer repairs including a rotted sprinkler valve, a sediment-clogged wellhead pipe and a failing HVAC chiller, saying portable fans have been "very workable for our teachers and staff." The district's superintendent said a flat-roof replacement would run "multiple million, likely low millions," against just a $15,000 state earmark for emergency roofing and a matching $35,000 for a building envelope study. The committee voted unanimously, 3-0, to approve a memorandum of understanding continuing its school resource officer program with Plympton police, and unanimously cleared a consent agenda and a revised 2026-27 meeting calendar.
Director of Finance and Operations Stephanie Hatton reported three students in out-of-district vocational placements, matching budget. The legislative subcommittee noted a statewide rural-school funding shortfall now estimated at $105 million a year, up from $60 million.
