Board of Selectmen · Meeting of July 27, 2026

Plympton's Board of Selectmen confronted a $118,000 police department budget overage and set the town's fall election calendar at its July 27 meeting. Police Chief Matt All detailed fiscal year 2026 shortfalls he said totaled approximately $118,014, driven by $13,000 in surgery-related backfill overtime, $25,000 in arrest-related shift extensions, court overtime exceeding $7,000 above projections, and spiking training mandates from the Massachusetts Police Training Committee, including a newly announced third annual training block not yet budgeted for fiscal 27. The board called for regular midyear financial check-ins with the department after expressing frustration that the gap was not surfaced until year-end closeout.

The board also approved 15 election officials and early voting schedules for the September 1 state primary and November 3 state election, ratified board and committee appointments from its June 15 meeting, and authorized a response to an open meeting law complaint filed by Patrick Higgins. In administrative updates, the town received a $189,750 MassDOT road repair grant and $6,285.49 in opioid settlement funds, with the board exploring a community grant application program modeled on a Randham initiative to deploy the restricted funds.
