Plympton Select Board Releases $50,000 for Dennett School Special Education Shortfall

PLYMPTON — December 2, 2024 — Plympton Select Board unanimously approved a $50,000 transfer from the Special Education Reserve Fund to address a roughly $250,000 mid-year shortfall at Dennett Elementary School. Town Administrator Liz Dennehy explained that the transfer, authorized under MGL Chapter 40, Section 13E and requiring concurrent approval from the local School Committee, would reduce the remaining gap to a more manageable level for FY25. Board member Mark Russo warned the move will leave the reserve fully depleted heading into a fiscal year he called potentially "really going to be trouble," depending on special education enrollment. The board also awarded a $38,000 attic insulation contract to Advanced Green Insulation of Rockland for the Town House roof project, renewed liquor, victualler, range, and scrap dealer licenses totaling $31,021.61 for six businesses, and approved a 99-year conservation restriction at 31 Parsonage Road. Police Chief Matt Aul reported the department is down two officers on medical leave and has conducted eight candidate interviews in recent weeks.
