Plympton Select Board Declares Snow Emergency, Approves New Accounting Software Deal

PLYMPTON — January 12, 2026 — Plympton Select Board declares snow and ice emergency and authorizes new accounting software contract at January 12 meeting. The board voted unanimously to authorize the highway department to deficit-spend beyond Plympton's exhausted snow and ice budget — a line that has held at $60,000 for many years — with members signaling the Finance Committee should consider raising the baseline, possibly to $100,000. The board also unanimously authorized the town accountant to sign a three-year contract with VADAR, a financial reporting software used by more than 100 Massachusetts communities, after the town's current accounting and payroll provider announced it will suspend those services by the end of 2026. Town Administrator Brie reported she secured a standalone energy savings contract with Sprague Energy and Eversource after Silver Lake Regional School District excluded Plympton's municipal buildings from a collective agreement — and that the new rate is more favorable than the prior arrangement.
