Plympton Town Properties chair resigns, committee votes to move ahead on townhouse door

PLYMPTON -- September 3, 2025, Plympton's Town Properties Committee chair announced her resignation and the panel voted to advance a stalled $60,000 historic door restoration at the Plympton Townhouse. The outgoing chair, a 25-year town volunteer, said she will file her Notice of Resignation on September 8, citing frustration with Board of Selectmen Chairman Smith's decision to hold a public discussion of the Community Preservation Act-funded door project on August 18 without inviting any Town Properties member to attend. The committee voted unanimously to elect member Mark Wall as the new chair. On the townhouse door, already approved at the 2024 Annual Town Meeting by roughly 103 of 106 voters present, the committee voted to proceed to public bid on the $60,000 scope, which covers door replacement, wood trim repair, asbestos abatement, and a $9,000 contingency, and firmly rejected a suggestion to use Silver Lake Regional's CTE program due to asbestos liability concerns. The committee also discussed obtaining an HVAC estimate for an overhead duct replacement at the existing fire station before winter, a repair flagged as a code violation by a state inspector in May whose written report has still not arrived.
