Plympton Fire Station Bids Come In $2 Million Under Estimate at $11.1 Million

PLYMPTON — April 24, 2025 — Plympton's Fire Station Building Committee presented bid results showing a low construction offer of $11.145 million, nearly $2 million under the committee's cost estimate of roughly $13.1 million, at a public information session Thursday. Committee Chair John Wilhelmsen said the total project cost, including equipment, fees, and contingency, reaches approximately $14.285 million, with roughly $14 million to be bonded over 30 years at 4.5 percent interest. The annual tax impact on the average Plympton homeowner would be approximately $468, or $0.88 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, partially offset by $100,000 annually from the capital stabilization fund and two existing debt obligations rolling off the levy by fiscal year 2026. Owner's Project Manager Dan Pulata told residents that comparable fire station headquarters anywhere in the Commonwealth cost more than this project: "This is an incredibly good time and an incredibly good deal to do it." Voters will decide the project's fate at Annual Town Meeting on May 14 and in a debt exclusion question on the town election ballot on May 17.
