Plympton Select Board Takes Direct Control of Water Supply Project Ahead of Funding Deadline

PLYMPTON — March 23, 2026 — Plympton Select Board advances water supply project under direct board control, separating it from the stalled fire station effort. Voting unanimously at the March 23 meeting, the board removed the Town Properties Committee from oversight of the town campus public water supply project and authorized the board itself to manage procurement, with the design engineer handling bid documents and no owner's project manager required — a structure Town Counsel Greg Corbo said is permitted under MGL Chapter 30, Section 39M. A June 30 funding deadline drove the decision. Fire Chief Cheryl Duddy told the board the current station has roughly two feet of standing water in its HVAC system, a leaking roof, rotting windows, and an at-risk electrical panel, and reported that Engine 1's pump may be fully decommissioned ahead of schedule. The board also executed a $4,500 contract amendment with Habib and Associates to oversee the townhouse front entrance project, which TPC brought from a $170,000 estimate to approximately $35,000 through bidding. Town Administrator Liz Denny's resignation was announced, with a tentative last day of April 16.
