Plympton Select Board Puts Fire Station Debt Exclusion on May 17 Ballot

PLYMPTON — March 25, 2025 — Plympton Select Board unanimously places fire station debt exclusion on May 17 ballot. The three-member board voted 3-0 on a roll call Tuesday to put a debt exclusion question for the proposed construction of a new fire station before voters at the May 17 annual town election, with town counsel authorized to finalize the specific language; the question also goes on the annual town meeting warrant, where it will require a two-thirds vote before becoming operative at the ballot. Board members cited a prior Finance Committee presentation by a Mr. Wilhelmsen as having laid out the per-taxpayer cost breakdown, with one member noting, "it doesn't mean we're in favor of it, but at least it'll give the townsfolk a chance to hear from all parties." In a separate 3-0 roll call, the board opted Plympton out of the state's early vote-by-mail program for the May 17 election, with Town Clerk citing a 50 percent mail ballot return rate in 2024 and ongoing local mail delivery failures as the basis for the recommendation. The board also made four appointments: Brian Kling as inspector of animals and Elizabeth Wesley and Robin Cotter (preliminary) to the Board of Registrars.
