Plympton Select Board extends contracts for town administrator, treasurer-collector, and police chief

PLYMPTON — January 6, 2025 — Plympton Select Board extends contracts for three top officials, with a split vote on the police chief. Meeting in executive session Monday under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 38, Section 21, the board voted 3-0 to extend Town Administrator Christine Joy's contract from March 28, 2025, through March 28, 2028, and 3-0 to extend the treasurer-collector's contract from June 1, 2025, through June 1, 2028. The board then voted 2-1 to extend Police Chief's contract from March 31, 2025, through March 31, 2028 — the only split action of the day. In open session, the board voted unanimously to issue the Boston Post Cane to Inez Murphy, born March 1, 1928, the town's oldest resident and a Council on Aging member, and to open the annual and special town meeting warrants with a closing deadline of the last Monday in March. Highway Superintendent Rob Furlott reported receipt of $111,316.07 in Chapter 90 rural roads funds for FY2025 and said the pay-as-you-throw solid waste program saved roughly $60,000 last year. Joy flagged a financially demanding town meeting season ahead: "It's going to be a tough sled, I'm afraid, this year."
