Plympton Select Board Approves Tree Removal, Road Easements, and Afternoon Meeting Extension

PLYMPTON — August 26, 2024 — Plympton Select Board approved a resident-funded tree removal, a road easement taking, and an extension of its afternoon meeting schedule at its August 26 session. The board unanimously authorized William Hannigan of 292 Main Street to remove a 110-foot town-owned pine at his own expense after the town tree warden supported the removal, citing the tree's isolation and risk to nearby bedrooms. It also formally adopted an order of taking for easements at 81 and 91 Winnetoukset Road as part of the state-funded Winnetoukset Road bridge replacement project, awarding $400 in damages to affected property owners — though one member noted he opposed the broader bridge project. The board voted to continue its 2 p.m. meeting pilot through December 31, 2024, and approved use of the Town Green for the annual Plympton Flower Show on September 1. Town Administrator Liz reported that the fire station suffered water damage in a back room during a recent storm, with a drainage trench under consideration as an immediate fix, and that officer Caitlin Malini has resigned effective September 3.
