Plympton Select Board Appoints Regional Nominees, Weighs Future of Town Green Flags

PLYMPTON — July 22, 2024 — Plympton Select Board names regional nominees and launches review of deteriorating town green flag program. The three-member board — Chair John Traynor, Clerk Mark Russo, and Selectman Dan Smith — voted unanimously to appoint Traynor as interim Old Colony Planning Council nominee while Traynor and Russo explore whether SRPEDD would better serve the town, and appointed Russo to the MBTA Advisory Committee replacing Christine Joy. Resident Rick Burnett told the board that five flags along the green corridor are in disrepair, with individual flags costing $16 to $20 each plus roughly $24 in hardware, and that his annual outlay has exceeded the town's $600 Memorial Day budget. The board directed Burnett to remove damaged flags and relocate three from past the town cemetery, and agreed to pursue a town meeting article in the spring.
