Plympton Select Board adopts uniform tax rate of $15.88 for fiscal 2025

PLYMPTON — November 4, 2024 — Plympton Select Board unanimously sets a $15.88 per thousand tax rate for fiscal 2025, the smallest increase in two years. The board voted to reject an open space discount, residential exemption, and small commercial exemption, following the recommendation of the Board of Assessors, which advocated for a factor of one — a single rate applied across all property classes. Holly Malgeri of the Board of Assessors told the board the average assessed single-family home value rose 3.5 percent to $532,902, compared with a 7.8 percent spike the prior year, and that the town retains $283,017 in excess levy capacity. Library Director Mike Slauson reported a $20,000 American Library Association accessibility grant and an upcoming week-long closure beginning November 11 for heat pump installation funded by a Green Communities Grant. Select Board member Mark Russo previewed three new Community Preservation Act applications totaling roughly $156,000 — covering library patio improvements, Holt Field upgrades, and open space pre-acquisition funds — with the first review meeting set for December 3.
