Plympton Select Board Adopts Procurement Policy, Approves Appointments at July Meeting

PLYMPTON — July 7, 2025 — Plympton Select Board reappoints part-time officer amid school resource program uncertainty, authorizes Old Townhouse survey. The board voted unanimously July 7 to reappoint Timothy Johnson as a part-time police officer through June 30, 2026, after Johnson declined a full-time school resource officer appointment that had been voted by Town Meeting as a dedicated budget line — the second consecutive officer to turn down such an offer. Town Administrator Liz Dennehy said Police Chief Matt is negotiating a revised memorandum of understanding with the union that would shift the program to a hybrid model, with officers spending up to two days per week on the LEAD program in schools while also conducting directed patrol, but the new arrangement must return to the board for approval before taking effect. The board also authorized a $1,300 boundary survey of the Old Townhouse property by local firm Grady, to be funded from existing survey and appraisals and building maintenance articles, and appointed Nathaniel Sides as the town's representative to the Old Colony Planning Council. Dennehy reported that the Old Colony Communications Center received a grant to replace fire and police digital radios — a long-standing gap — and that the failed highway department generator is being replaced by South Shore Generator using ARPA and maintenance funds.
