Plympton Board of Health Bans Shake Machine at K. Katie's After Lab Failures

PLYMPTON -- January 27, 2026, Plympton's Board of Health voted to shut down a milkshake machine at a local food establishment and adopted updated Title 5 regulations at its January 27 meeting. The board, with Chair Art Morin and member Jared Anderson present, voted unanimously to order K. Katie's to cease shake machine operations and submit a written plan for resuming service after two of three recent lab tests failed, tests dated January 12 and January 13. Health Agent Kathy Ferguson said prior guidance from Health Agent Kevin Forge had been to "put it out of service" pending a written remediation plan. The board also adopted amended Title 5 supplemental regulations incorporating a new state DEP guidance document on accessory dwelling units and adding a requirement that any Title 5 inspection report submitted without a water test will be deemed incomplete. A revised fee schedule splits septic plan review into a $100 residential rate and a new $200 commercial rate, and adds a $50 annual permit fee for tobacco and nicotine delivery product sales. Ferguson also reported that Cape Cod VNA will return as Plympton's nursing services provider through the Southern Plymouth County Public Health Excellence Collaborative, the first such arrangement since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
